WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY – ENCHANTED FOREST PARK, FL
This is a photograph of a Milkweed Bug that was taken at Enchanted Forest Park in North Miami, Florida. The gear used in this photo of a Milkweed Bug was a Nikon D90 camera body attached to a Nikkor 60mm 2.8 lens and macro light ring.
The Milkweed Bug (Lygaeus kalmii) grows to about 1/2-5/8 of an inch in length, has an black oval body, and a red band behind its head. The forewings of the Milkweed Bug usually have a large, bright red X shape although there are many variations in the pattern. The Milkweed Bug is in the True Bug Order and is toxic to predators. It lays its eggs on milkweeds and is immune to the plant’s toxins. The habitat of the Milkweed Bug is primarily meadows containing milkweeds.
