"Regal Darner Dragonfly at Arch Creek Memorial Park"

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY – ARCH CREEK MEMORIAL PARK, FL

This photograph, taken at Arch Creek Memorial Park in North Miami, Florida (just east of Enchanted Forest Park) is of a Regal Darner Dragonfly. The shot was taken with a Nikon D90 camera body attached to a Nikkor 60mm 2.8 lens, a Tamron 2x teleconverterĀ and a macro light ring.

The Regal Darner dragonfly (Coryphaeschna ingens) is a large dragonfly growing to a length of approximately 3 1/2 inches. The thorax of the Regal Darner dragonfly is green with brown stripes. Its abdomen is brown with narrow green wings above.The eyes are green in immature males or blue in females. The wings of the Regal Darner are transparent.

The usual habitat of the Regal Darner dragonfly are lakes, slow moving streams, and woods.

  2. This is not a regal darner it looks more like some clubtail species, darners eyes make contact with no noticeable separation Clubtails have a gap between the eyes as this one does, I am not familiar with all the species you have in florida but it’s not a darner
