WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY – ENCHANTED FOREST PARK, FL
This is a photograph of a Golden Silk Spider resting in its web. The photo was captured using a Nikon D90 camera and a Nikkor 60mm lens from s distance of approximately 18 inches. I came upon this fellow while walking along the path in Enchanted Forest Park, located in North Miami, Florida.
The Golden Silk Spider ((Nephila clavipes) is approximately 1 inch in length. The head/thorax is a pale gray with black spots. Its abdomen is cylindrical, orange, yellow, or greenish, with white spots. The legs are banded in yellow-orange and black with tufts of black hair on the first and last pairs. The web of the Golden Silk Spider is quite large measuring 24-36 inches, with strong, thick strands.
