Photographed is a Golden-winged Skimmer Dragonfly that was captured digitally at the Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area off of Alligator Alley (I-75) in Collier County, Florida. The gear used in this photograph of a Golden-winged Skimmer dragonfly was a Nikon D80 camera body attached to a Nikkor 60mm 2.8 lens and macro light ring.

The Golden-winged Skimmer Dragonfly (Libellula auripennis) grows to a length of approximately 2 inches. The male is bright orange in color, its abdomen has a black stripe above. The female and immature Golden-winged Skimmer dragonfly are pale orange, its thorax sides have a yellow stripe and yellow abdomen. The wings of the Golden-winged Skimmer Dragonfly are transparent but in the male, they have orange veins. The habitat of this fragonfly is grassy ponds and lakes. The range of the Golden-winged Skimmer Dragonfly in Florida is generally South to Lake Okeechobee.
