Dragonfly – Florida Everglades Big Cypress

WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY – BIG CYPRESS WMA, FL

Nature photograph of dragonfly was taken in the Florida Everglades in a place known as the Big Cypress Swamp on 08/22/2009. I was hiking a trail running parallel to a canal during the summer rainy season with the sun over my shoulder. I used a Nikon D80 with no flash, and took the photograph from a distance of about 6 inches from the insect.  The Florida Everglades  offers a unique destination for insect  nature photography.

 Insect trivia:

Dragonflies are similar to damselflies, but the adults can be differentiated by the fact that the wings of most dragonflies are held away from, and perpendicular to, the body when at rest.  Even though dragonflies (Odonata) possess 6 legs as any other insect, they are not capable of walking.
