WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY – BIG CYPRESS WMA, FL

 

This is a photograph of a Great Blue Skimmer Dragonfly that was taken at the Big Cypress Wildlife Management Area off of Alligator Alley (I-75) in Collier County, Florida. The gear used for this photo of a Great Blue Skimmer Dragonfly was a Nikon D80 body attached to a Nikkor 60mm 2,8 lens.

The Great Blue Skimmer Dragonfly (Libellula vibrans) grows to a length of 2 1/4 inches. In the male Great Blue Skimmer Dragonfly, the thorax and abdomen are pale blue. In the female, they are brown. In both sexes, the eyes are greenish blue. The wings of the Great Blue Skimmer Dragonfly are transparent, with dusky tips. The habitat of the Great Blue Skimmer Dragonfly are woodland ponds and streams.
