WILDLIFE PHOTOGRAPHY – BIG CYPRESS WMA, FL

This is a photograph of a Blue Dasher Dragonfly that was captured at the Big Cypress Swamp Wildlife Management Area in Collier County, Florida off of I-75 (Alligator Alley). The camera used for this subject was a Nikon D80 with a Nikkor 60mm lens. The subject was photographed using a hi ISO.

The Blue Dasher dragonfly (Pachydiplax longipennis)  grows to a approximate length of 1 1/3 inch. The thorax of the Blue Dasher is striped black and greenish yellow; its abdomen being a pale blue with black tip, female’s with 2 broken yellow lines. The face of the Blue Dasher dragonfly is creamy in color, and its wings are mostly clear.

The habitat of the Blue Dasher dragonfly is ponds, marshes, and sluggish streams.
